Leonard Bernstein at 90.  Join Pro Musica to hear virtuoso pianist and psychiatrist Dr. Richard Kogan perform Bernstein’s music, and explore the connections of Bernstein’s mind and music. We will hear exciting works, including selections from West Side Story and On The Town. Composer, conduc- tor, educator and pianist, Leonard Bernstein was one of the most brilliantly gifted and charis- matic figures in all of classical music. BBC Music Magazine referred to Bernstein as “The greatest musician
of modern times.” And yet, in spite of his dazzling achievements–the composer of West Side Story, Mass, The Age of Anxiety, and other masterpieces–was never fully satisfied with his accomplishments. How did Bernstein’s complex inner and outer-life affect his work as a composer? Dr. Richard Kogan, leading psychiatrist and classical pianist, will examine Bernstein’s genius, giving a psychiatrist’s perspective on Bernstein’s often-conflicted personality.
